The position does not supervise any subordinates.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Disseminate information throughout Mahoning and Trumbull County to promote public education and awareness of strategies to prevent and reduce substance misuse, by engaging faith-based institutions, clubs, civic organizations, businesses, block watches, etc.
, through grass roots canvasing.
Attends community events, festivals, walks, heritage activities, and participates in these events, maintains information table.
Engages in media campaign activities.
Performs public relations functions to increase the Agency's visibility (i.
e.
, social media campaigns, media interviews, press releases, etc.
).
Identifies and refers customers to the treatment system and social service delivery system.
Community Based Process activities (i.
e.
, Agency liaison person, serves on various community and state committees, task forces, etc.
).
Completes all other duties as assigned.
Assist the Executive Director, Program Director, in establishing, maintaining, monitoring, marketing, and evaluation of programs in the urban minority community of Mahoning and Trumbull County.
Completes detailed reports and forms as required, (i.
e.
, daily activity logs, implementation charts, referral forms, training forms, expense reimbursements, etc.
).
Documents all program activities.
WORK HOURS Weekend and evening work are required.

In State travel is required.
MAJOR WORKER CHARACTERISTICS Ability to effectively interact, interface, and engage various community sectors, such as the faith-based community, civic organizations, businesses, health care organizations, educational institutions, parents, community coalitions, community-based organizations, etc.
Ability to engage in canvassing and information dissemination in inner city and rural areas.
Ability to work with co-workers on group projects.
Ability to interact effectively with low-income populations, inner city youth and adults, ability to utilize computers efficiently (i.
e.
, Windows, Excel, Word).
Must possess excellent verbal communication skills.
Must be able to complete detailed paperwork properly, on time, Able to interface with city, county, state, and federal officials, the media, etc.
All newly hired employees to this position are required to become registered applicants with the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board within 30 days of the effective date of hire in order to maintain employment with YUMADAOP.
Obtaining state required prevention certification is a requirement for maintaining employment.
MINIMUM CLASS REQUIREMENTS Associates degree, B.
A.
or B.
S.
degree or equivalent with one (1) year experience in Human Services (preferred experience in violence, alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention programs), special sensitivity to social and cultural backgrounds, ability to establish meaningful rapport with people of color, currently possess or able to obtain required prevention certification.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS All employees must undergo and pass a Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BC II) and a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background check in order to be employed, or remain employed with this Agency.
Must pass drug screen.

Citizen.
Grant writing experience with above preferred.
COMPENSATION Salary based on previous prevention specialist or similar experience.
